PortStates.org is an exciting development concept that is currently seeking partners to help shape and implement a national-level tool for implementation of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA). Its vision is to assist public-private partnerships to stop Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fish from entering global supply chains.

Initially, the portal will focus on the Thailand tuna industry – one of the largest hubs of fish processing in the world – and aims to help facilitate PSM implementation at the national level.

Funding partners for this initiative are now being sought. We are looking for partnerships with governments, philanthropies and the seafood industry to make it a reality.

PortStates.org will be an online service that enables governments, seafood suppliers, processors and retailers to quickly and easily understand the compliance risks associated with foreign-flagged and domestic vessels delivering fish product into port states. These compliance risks will be identified using the processes that governments are already requiring to implement the Port State Measures Agreement.

This international tool will leverage the private sector’s purchasing power to support sustainable and legal fisheries across the globe. The concept will build off OceanMind’s work to support the Royal Thai Government and Seafood Task Force in their efforts to ensure a safe, legal, and sustainable seafood sector in Thailand.
